With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, everyone is excited for a day of romance and chocolates. However, before you get ahead of yourself, here are a few tips to keep your breath fresh and teeth healthy for this kissing holiday.
1. Candy is tasty, but…
While Valentine’s Day is certainly known for romance, it is also known for all of the mouth-watering chocolates. Just remember that as you are satisfying your sweet tooth, to drink plenty of water to help remove some of that excess candy and bacteria from between your teeth. Additionally, you will want to keep up with normal brushing and flossing.
2. Is dry mouth causing your bad breath?
One of the leading causes of bad breath is dry mouth. In fact, it is part of why your breath never smells too great in the early morning. While a little saliva can get the job done, a little water can do wonders as well.
3. Don’t forget to clean your tongue too!
While we are on the subject of bad breath, make sure to keep your tongue clean on a daily basis. Much like the rest of your mouth, your tongue can collect bacteria which doesn’t smell too great. However, with a little tongue brushing you can easily keep things fresh.
4. Make sure it’s fluoride!
When it comes to toothpaste, there are plenty of options to choose from. No matter which brand you choose, try to aim for one with fluoride inside. Fluoride helps to fight off cavities and thus will keep bad breath at bay.
5. Are you sure you’re brushing correctly?
Believe it or not, not everyone knows how to brush properly. Each brushing session should be no more than two minutes and you should be brushing around the gum lines as well as your teeth.
