Believe it or not, back to school is right around the corner. There are the usual shopping lists and classroom supplies to ready for the new year, but you should also be thinking about your child’s dental health for the upcoming school year. Take some time and think ahead and you’ll be prepared for everything.
Brushing And Flossing
Be sure to make brushing and flossing a regular part of your back to school routine. While you are in the store shopping for school supplies, be sure to also stock up on dental hygiene supplies. You should replace your toothbrush every couple of months, so why not grab a new one while you are in the store? Or maybe one for everyone in your house!
Make sure brushing is made a part of your routine twice per day. Mornings and evenings both can be really hectic. Kids need lunches and backpacks packed, homework finished, and dinner made. Sometimes the daily things get forgotten. Make it a point to include brushing in both your nighttime routine, and in your morning routine. Once it becomes second, nature, you won’t have to worry about it again.
Pack Healthy Snacks
Send your kids to school with healthy snack choices. Avoid juice boxes and just send a water bottle for a drink. It will help cut down on excess sugars. Avoid sugary snacks and treats, and focus on packing vegetables and dip, healthy grains, and fruit options. Not only will it help your child make good choices, but it will also help to keep their teeth healthier. Dairy choices like string cheese and yogurt can also provide much needed calcium to keep teeth strong.
Wear A Mouthguard
If your child is involved in sports, be sure that they are fitted for the proper mouth guard. You’ll want to make sure that their teeth stay safe and healthy while playing sports. The last thing anyone needs is an emergency trip to the dentist. Instead, get them fitted for the proper mouth guard and avoid costly dental bills down the road.
