How Much Does Orthodontic Treatment Cost?

Here at Hidden Smiles Orthodontics, we often hear from people who are interested in orthodontic treatment but worried about how much it will cost. While we believe everyone should have access to the orthodontic care they need, it’s true that there’s a financial investment required for a straighter, healthier smile. The exact cost of treatment will vary from case to case, however, so there’s no “one size fits all” fee for braces or aligners. That’s because there are several factors that need to be considered when determining the total amount required for treatment. This includes things like:

  • the type of orthodontic appliance being used
  • whether the patient is a child or an adult
  • how simple or complex the case is
  • the estimated treatment time
  • whether or not the patient has dental insurance that covers orthodontic treatment
  • the orthodontist providing treatment
  • where the chosen orthodontist is located

Our treatment fees also reflect the skill and expertise Dr. Parikh possesses, our team’s experience in orthodontics, and the cutting-edge technology we use to help patients achieve a beautifully aligned and fully functional smile.

As you can see, there’s a lot that goes into the total cost of each patient’s orthodontic experience. That’s one reason why your first step should always be a consultation with an orthodontist. When you schedule your free visit with our Huntington office, we’ll sit down with you and explain everything that’s included in your customized treatment plan, including the investment required for your new smile. In the meantime, let’s explore what treatment normally includes, how much it tends to cost on average, and what payment options we have available!

Determining the cost of orthodontic treatment

Modern orthodontics offers more ways than ever to straighten your smile. Metal braces, clear braces, lingual braces, Invisalign aligners—whatever your goals and lifestyle, we’ve got you covered! However, it’s important to note that each treatment method has its own strengths and weaknesses in correcting certain kinds of issues. Every smile is unique, and your specific needs are the biggest factor in determining which treatment options would be best for you. Each treatment method has its own strengths and weaknesses in correcting certain kinds of issues, and this is something Dr. Parikh will consider as she builds a personalized treatment plan for you.

The complexity of your orthodontic needs will also determine how long you will need to be in braces or aligners. The more severe or complicated a case is, the longer it is likely to take to correct it. When determining the total cost of orthodontic treatment for any patient, we’ll take into account the method being used, the complexity of the case, and the expected length of treatment. Although the fees will vary from patient to patient, we can still examine the average costs to give you a better idea of what to expect! The national average for different treatment options generally falls within the following ranges.

Traditional metal brackets: $3,000-$6,000

Clear braces: $4,000-$8,000

Invisalign clear aligners: $3,000-$8,000

Lingual braces: $8,000-$10,000

Remember that these are only averages! Your total treatment cost will depend on your unique smile and the factors we’ve outlined above.

How Much Does Orthodontic Treatment Cost?

What does the treatment fee typically cover?

No one likes unexpected surprises when it comes to investing in something important, like transforming your smile. We value our patients and are committed to always being transparent about our treatment fees! At Hidden Smiles Orthodontics, the total cost of treatment will typically cover everything you need to achieve and maintain a beautiful smile, such as:

  • all of your appointments, including emergency visits
  • braces, aligners, or other orthodontic appliance
  • post-treatment retainers
  • follow-up visits once your treatment is complete
  • an oral hygiene starter pack

Using dental insurance to cover orthodontic treatment

Dental insurance plans that help cover orthodontic treatments can bring the personal cost of your treatment down tremendously. Unfortunately, their coverage rules and policies are often confusing! Once you’ve met with Dr. Parikh for a consultation and received a diagnosis and treatment plan, you should check with your dental provider to see what they will and will not cover in the way of orthodontic treatment. Our team will be happy to go over your policy with you to help you maximize your benefits.

Each customized treatment plan is based upon the patient’s unique health needs and the professional judgment of Dr. Parikh. She does not base treatment on whether or not certain options are covered by insurance, but will instead present you with a plan that will best address your particular needs and goals.

Co-payments or out of pocket expenses will be estimated in advance of treatment. Once treatment is complete and all insurance payments are received, we’ll reconcile the account. Patients are responsible for any underpayment at that point.

If insurance won’t cover braces, can the cost be deducted?

If braces are deemed to be medically necessary, the dental health care costs associated with them can sometimes be tax-deductible. However, that cost generally has to exceed a certain amount before any deductions would kick in. You should keep track of all expenses associated with your braces treatment if you want to deduct the costs. This includes any co-pays and check-up visits.

Invest in your oral health with Hidden Smiles Orthodontics

The benefits of orthodontic treatment go beyond a straighter smile. Your oral health also plays an important role in your total body health, and crooked teeth come with an increased risk for cavities, tooth decay, and gum disease. That’s because they’re harder to clean effectively and make brushing and flossing more difficult. Not only that, but misalignment can also lead to headaches, pain, and soreness in the jaw and neck. Orthodontic treatment can help reduce or eliminate these symptoms, leaving you with a smile that looks good and feels good, too!

Hidden Smiles Orthodontics is committed to providing patients of all ages with affordable treatment options to fit every budget.
