How To Drink During Your Invisalign Treatment

How To Drink During Your Invisalign TreatmentFor many people, one of the chief advantages of wearing Invisalign braces is, as the name implies, the trans-parency of the braces themselves. For something that may have to be worn in the mouth for a year or more, the idea that most people won’t even notice the presence of braces without focused scrutiny is very appealing.

However, there are some maintenance habits you need to observe if you want to keep those braces—and their possible attachments—are clear and unnoticeable as possible. This is particularly important when it comes to drinking certain fluids.

Avoid Colored Fluids

The easiest way to keep your braces transparent while wearing them is to only drink water or sparkling water while when it’s not meal time. Of course, during meal times, you are encouraged to remove your braces in order to eat your food, and it is at these times that you can indulge in coffee, tea, wine, or any other beverages with some kind of coloration to them.

The reason you do this only when you’ve removed your braces is because if you drink coffee, wine—or even smoke cigarettes—while you are wearing your Invisalign braces, some of the components of these substances will stain the braces, eventually becoming visible and making your teeth look discolored when you are wearing them.

Stick To Cold Drinks

Temperature is another factor to keep in mind when it comes to drinking. Once again, when your braces are off, feel free to indulge. However, when you are wearing them, high temperature fluids can actually warp the braces. This is especially true if you like a really hot cup of tea or coffee. Confine yourself only to room temperature or cooler water if want to drink while wearing your braces.

Just remember, once the braces come off for meal times, feel free to eat and drink whatever you like! Just make sure to properly brush and floss your teeth when the time comes.
