Why an Orthodontist in Long Island? Orthodontist vs. Dentist
All orthodontists start as dentists, but not all dentists can straighten teeth effectively. As an orthodontist, Dr. Parikh has spent years studying nothing but how and why to move teeth. This includes what to do, how to plan, and how to execute the appropriate treatment plan. All orthodontists, including Dr. Parikh, have to continue their formal education for 2 or 3 additional years before receiving their license and certification.
Why does it matter if you see your Long Island Orthodontist?
Specialists receive additional training to give them the skills needed to deal with more complex orthodontic problems. Dentists do, however, receive basic orthodontic training which allows them to perform root canals, extract wisdom teeth, and treat young children who do not need to see an orthodontist yet.
An orthodontist may improve your treatment experience in the following ways:
- Providing more treatment options, with a variety of braces or therapies to choose from.
- Personal experience treating multiple cases that share your unique concern and anatomical characteristics.
- More efficient treatment and visits, because it is the office’s focus area of care.
- Knowing that you’ll receive the best possible outcome on your treatment plan, especially if you have severe bite discrepancies that need to be addressed.
- Being seen quickly, as a family dentist will be focused on longer patient cases or emergencies throughout the day.
While it may seem easier to have your dentist complete your orthodontic work, it’s just as convenient to achieve expert and specialized care from Hidden Smiles Orthodontics. You will only be stopping by your Long Island orthodontic offices every six to eight weeks.
Hidden Smiles Orthodontics is proud to provide affordable treatment in the Long Island area, and we don’t want price to ever be an obstacle. That’s why we accept most major insurance providers and offer payment plans.
Testimonials from Long Island orthodontist patients
A little over a year ago I scheduled a free orthodontic consultation with Dr. Mita Parikh at Hidden Smiles Orthodontics. I asked her if she could straighten my crooked and crowded teeth with Invisalign. She said she could absolutely do that and that Invisalign was actually a better option for me than traditional metal braces.
I had metal braces when I was a teenager. However, over time my teeth had moved quite a bit. The crowding was not only unattractive, but it also made it very difficult for my hygienist to clean my teeth. I was warned that the crowding was causing plaque to build up quickly and that this was leading to periodontal problems, and could lead to other systemic problems if not taken care of.
I could have gotten the Invisalign through my dentist but I felt that going to an orthodontist was the better option.
I made the right choice. Dr. Parikh and the staff at Hidden Smiles Orthodontics are incredibly friendly and competent. At the start of treatment, they use computer imaging to show you what your teeth and smile will look like when you're done. They use that same imaging all along the way to show you where you started and where you are in the treatment. This keeps you encouraged that you're making progress.
A little more than 1 year after starting...and my teeth are straight! There is no crowding and my hygienist has no trouble cleaning them.
I could not be happier. And, I could not recommend Dr. Mita Parikh and Hidden Smiles Orthodontics more highly.
