The field of orthodontics is constantly changing and this new orthodontic appliance is cutting-edge, to say the least. To learn more about BRIUS, keep reading below.

What is BRIUS?

If you’re like most people, the first thing you think of when considering orthodontic treatment is traditional metal braces. These have a reputation for being bulky and uncomfortable, but many people aren’t too excited about the additional responsibilities that come with options like Invisalign. Thankfully, BRIUS can be used as a successful alternative to these classic treatments!

Like lingual braces, BRIUS brackets are placed behind the teeth so they’re completely invisible to anyone who sees your smile. This method makes it much easier to maintain your oral hygiene during treatment and can even result in shorter treatment times than braces or Invisalign.

The BRIUS process

The first step in any orthodontic process is a free initial consultation in our Huntington office. When you schedule your initial visit with Dr. Parikh, she’ll examine your teeth and bite to determine any issues that may be present and how severe they are. She’ll listen to your concerns and answer any questions you may have about your condition and relevant treatments. During this consultation, we’ll use our 3D scanner to take digital impressions of your teeth to determine exactly what you need. From there, Dr. Parikh will create a customized treatment plan to achieve your dream smile.

Once we have these images and decide on your course of treatment, we’ll send them to our lab where brackets will be created for you and you alone. Then we’ll schedule your next appointment and Dr. Parikh will place your brackets and the work will begin! Since there are no adjustments with BRIUS, you’ll simply come in for monitoring every few weeks so that we can ensure your treatment is progressing as planned.

What benefits does BRIUS offer?

There are pros and cons to every orthodontic appliance, so when it comes to making the choice to pursue treatment, we believe you should know all of your options! BRIUS is a revolutionary treatment that comes with a variety of benefits, including:

  • 50% shorter treatment times – this method moves all of the teeth simultaneously
  • Completely invisible – brackets are placed on the backs of the teeth
  • More convenient – you never have to remember to remove or replace them
  • More comfortable – BRIUS places less force on the teeth and pain-free
  • Easier to clean – since there are no wires, there are fewer nooks and crannies to worry about when brushing and flossing
  • Fewer office visits – since most cases only require one BRIUS during treatment, there are no adjustments necessary

As with any orthodontic treatment, you may experience some slight soreness in the first few days after having the appliance placed. This will mostly be felt on the tongue and may be more noticeable when speaking and eating. However, this will subside shortly after your appliance is placed and you’ll be back to normal in no time!

Who is a candidate for BRIUS?

The benefits of BRIUS are a huge bonus for patients who are concerned about how braces will make their smile look. It’s also great if you aren’t looking for a removable appliance like Invisalign. Since its creation, BRIUS has successfully straightened countless smiles! Dr. Parikh can use this innovative method to treat most orthodontic issues, ranging from mild to severe.

That being said, BRIUS may not be the best option for everyone. For example, if you’re dealing with an extreme overbite may feel too much pressure on the brackets due to the bite, causing them to detach more easily. At your first visit, Dr. Parikh will be able to determine if BRIUS is a good fit for your smile.

Having braces on the back of your teeth can take a little getting used to in the beginning. The main area you’ll notice this is in your speech – you’ll likely have a slight lisp due to the contact the tongue will make with your teeth. This side effect typically disappears relatively quickly, though, so don’t worry too much!
